Baked Macaroni Cheese Recipe

Ingredients

 

plain flour - 2 tsp

low-fat milk - 1/2 cup

large elbow pasta - 1 cup

small onion - 1, chopped

parmesan cheese - 1 tbsp, grated

margarine - 2 tsp

 

Topping

 

chives - 1 tbsp, chopped

dry breadcrumbs - 1 tbsp

rolled oats - 1/4 cup

low-fat cheese - 1 tbsp, grated

 

Method

 

Preheat oven to 180˚C.

Cook pasta in heavy-based pan of rapidly boiling water until tender. Drain and set aside.

Heat margarine in pan, stir onion until soft. Add flour and stir until mixture lightly golden.

Add milk, stir until mixture smooth.

Stir constantly over medium heat until boil and thickens, remove from heat.

Add cheese and pasta, stir until the mixture smooth.

To make the topping, mix chives, breadcrumbs, and cheese in a bowl, stir well.

Spoon the mixture into ovenproof baking dish, sprinkle with topping mixture, bake for 10-15 minutes until golden and the cheese melted. Serve hot.
