Onigiri Recipe (Rice Ball)

Ingredients

 

Japanese steam rice - 4 cups

dried nori (seaweed) - 8 strips

salt - to taste

ume (pickled plum)/grilled salted salmon/okaka/bonito flakes

 

Method

 

Cook the steam rice. Grill salted salmon if you are using, tear into small chunks and set aside.

After the rice is cooked, put 1/2 cup of steam rice in a rice bowl.

Make a dent in the center of the rice and fill in with ume/salmon/okaka.

Wet your hands (so that it won't stick), rub some salt, pressing the rice lightly with both palms, and form the rice into a triangle.

Finally, wrap the rice ball with a strip of nori. Makes 8.
